Need Support Sooner? Our Sliding Scale
If you are experiencing a high level of distress or feel you cannot wait until the Fall term begins, we do have limited, immediate openings through our Sliding Scale Program with our current qualifying and fully registered clinical team.
Our sliding scale pricing means session fees are able to be adjusted based on your income and personal circumstances. This approach allows us to offer high-quality, compassionate care at a rate that works for you, without compromising the support you deserve.
Why Choose A Student Therapist?
Two Minds in Your Corner: While you sit one-on-one with your therapist, your care is continuously reviewed, shaped, and supported behind the scenes by a senior Registered Psychotherapist. You are essentially getting the combined expertise of two clinicians.
The Latest Evidence-Based Care: Student interns are currently immersed in the latest psychological research, modern therapeutic modalities, and neuro-affirming, inclusive frameworks. They bring fresh, highly motivated energy to every single session.
Focused, Dedicated Attention: Unlike fully booked clinicians who balance massive caseloads, student interns deliberately manage very small client lists. This gives them deep capacity to focus intensely on your specific goals, preparation, and care.
Program Parameters & Scope
What We Can Support:
Neurodivergence (ADHD, Autism, etc)
Anxiety, stress, and burnout
Life transitions, identity exploration, and self-esteem
Relationship challenges and communication boundaries
Mild to moderate depression and emotional regulation
Navigating neurodivergence in a neurotypical world
Clinical Boundaries (Out of Scope)
Please Note: Because this is a learning and teaching opportunity, our student program is not a safe clinical fit for individuals requiring highly specialized or crisis-level care.
We are unable to accommodate acute crisis/suicidal ideation, active psychosis, severe unmanaged addiction, or court-involved/legal assessments through this program. If your needs fall into these categories, we will gladly help connect you with alternative community resources.
Frequently Asked Financial & Insurance Questions
Q: How much do sessions cost?
A: Sessions within our Affordable Therapy Program are $XX per 50-minute session. We accept payment via e-transfer or major credit cards at the time of your appointment. Please note that we do not offer direct billing for our student clinic.
Q: Will my extended health insurance cover these sessions?
A: It depends entirely on your specific insurance provider and plan. In Ontario, our student interns are typically registered as Student Psychotherapists or Registered Psychotherapists (Qualifying). Every session they provide is closely overseen by a fully Registered Psychotherapist (RP).
We provide detailed insurance receipts containing both the student's information and their supervising Registered Psychotherapist’s name and CRPO registration number.
Q: What should I ask my insurance provider to confirm coverage?
A: Because insurance plans vary wildly, we strongly recommend calling your insurance provider before your first session and asking them this exact question:
"Does my plan cover counseling services provided by a Supervised Student Intern or a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) who is under the direct supervision of a fully Registered Psychotherapist (RP)?"
Q: What if I can't wait until September for the student program?
A: If you are in distress or require immediate care, please let us know. We maintain a limited number of immediate sliding scale spots with our current qualifying and fully registered clinical team. Rates for these spots are scaled based on income and therapist availability. You can indicate your interest in an immediate sliding scale spot on our intake form below.
